HORIZON SERIES

Rabindranath Tagore Centre, ICCR Kolkata presents in its Horizon Series Nava Nritya (a contemporary and composite dance tradition) by Chirantan Bhaduri & troupe

Nava Nritya is an alternate approach to Indian traditional dance by incorporating elements of Indian classical dances, like Bharatnatyam and Manipuri, folk dances, martial art forms like Mayurbhanj Chhau of Orissa, Kandyan of Sri Lanka and Thang Ta of Manipur and yogic postures to create a unique dance tradition. Nava Nritya is an open ended dance style that also takes its inspiration from traditional and contemporary art, literature, paintings and sculptures. Performing this style requires a high degree of physical fitness and mental alertness.

Chirantan Bhaduri trained in the Nava Nritya Dance style under Dr. Manjushri Chaki Sircar and Ranjabati Sircar at the Dancers Guild and also under Odissi Guru Khagendranath Burman.
