On completion of a year, the Kolkata flagship of ICCR, Rabindranath Tagore Centre, celebrated its first Anniversary on June 10, 2009 with significant events in the city’s cultural calendar. The Director General, ICCR Shri Virendra Gupta welcomed guests at a reception at the Fountain Court. As a joint collaboration of ICCR and National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi, a photographic exhibition by Nemai Ghosh titled Satyajit Ray-from Script to Screen’ was displayed at Nandalal Bose Gallery and remained open till 28th June. In these photographs, Nemai Ghosh has captured creative moments through the camera lens which reveal the entire gamut of filmmaking of Satyajit Ray. The exhibition was inaugurated by Shri Jawhar Sircar, Secretary, Ministry of Culture and was curated by Shri Rajeev Lochan, Director, NGMA. Documentary films on the master photographer were shown during gallery hours. Later, in the evening DG, ICCR, inaugurated RTC’s new website which was followed by a dance performance of "Chirantan" by Tanushree Sankar and Troupe.
Film Director Shri Mrinal Sen, theatre personalities Smt Swatilekha & Shri Rudraprasad Sengupta, Smt Sova Sen, Smt Amala Sankar and artist Shri Shuvaprasanna Bhattacharya were among the many invited guests and journalists present at the anniversary celebration.
In the journey of one year from inauguration to its first anniversary celebration, RTC, ICCR has organised many cultural events both national and international, promoted cultural exchanges across countries and provided opportunities to Indian upcoming artists.
